Septic Inspections and Locating: the short answer
A septic inspection tells you whether the tank, baffles and drain field are working and how long until the next pump-out. Most residential inspections in Florida cost $200 to $600; Florida does not require one when a home is sold, but most buyers in Miami-Dade ask for it.
Camera inspections show the inside of lines and drain field pipes without digging, and tank locating finds a buried tank before anything else can be done. Every existing system in Miami-Dade had to be registered with DERM by 1 January 2024; an inspection is a good moment to confirm that it was.
For drainage systems, mapping traces pipes and inlets so a repair can be planned from facts rather than guesses.

Questions
How often should a septic system be inspected?
At least every three years for a household system, and about once a year for systems with pumps or aerators.
Can you find a septic tank if I do not know where it is?
Yes. We trace the line from the house cleanout and probe or use a locator to find the tank, then mark it. Adding a riser afterwards saves doing it again.
