Septic Design and Permits: the short answer
A septic permit in Miami-Dade comes from two offices: the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade issues the construction permit after a site evaluation, and DERM approves new and whole replacement systems with plans signed and sealed by a Florida professional engineer.
The site evaluation measures the soil and the wet-season water table; the design then sets the treatment unit, the drain field size and height, and the setbacks: 100 feet from surface water and, without public water, 50 feet from property lines.
State fees are modest, $100 for a new system application and plan review and $115 for a site evaluation, but the engineering, County review and site work are where time and money go. We prepare one package for both agencies.
